MANGA BY MEMORY #1

Forte

So, I recently had a thought. I have read a lot of manga in my life, thanks to manga scanlation sites. I don't always read the most popular Shonen series, and there are a lot of series I've considered decent but never had the motivation to finish. Either way, I've probably read over a hundred stories. So I was thinking, "What if I review a bunch of manga solely based on my memory of them?". Sounds like a good idea, right?

There are two rules I'm going to set for myself here. First Rule: I must follow the KISS principle, Keep it simple and short. While there are a few series that have had a profound impact on me, I can't go on super long rants about them and everything related to them. Second Rule: I AM allowed to spoil some things. However, I will keep any plot twists and major, exciting events to myself. Without further ado, let’s knock out five manga.

I decided to start out with something simple. Oneshots. Sometimes these act as pilots for longer-running manga. Some are just a little comic an artist made for a magazine or Twitter. All are basically a short story lasting only a few pages.

TOWN OF WITCHES/魔女がいた街/Mahou Shoujo ga Ita Machi

Kichi Yoito

A doomer high school student discovers that a girl in his class is a witch who defends their town from monsters. He tags along with her on her missions, until one tragic day when the witch got careless. In the end, the boy learns to appreciate things. It's a good tragedy.

The Story of a Succubus Who Is Not Erotic at All/まったくエロくないサキュバスの話/Mattaku Ero Kunai Succubus no Hanashi

Masahiro Yuki

This right here is an example of a oneshot that an artist came up with one afternoon and posted onto Twitter. I think it's only like 3-4 pages long. A guy gets visited by a succubus by a plain-looking succubus. Again, it might only be seven panels max, not much to say.

Pulp Girl/果肉の娘/Kaniku no Musume

Abe Youichi

This was a weird one. A schoolgirl with no skirt fights another schoolgirl with multiple heads stacked on top of each other. I won’t elaborate further. Read if you need some surrealism in your life.

The Three Succubus Pals with a Baby/サキュバス仲良し3人組 with 赤ちゃん/Sakyubasu nakayoshi 3-ningumi uiizu akachan (?)

Zyugoya

Damn, another succubus one? It’s a comedic oneshot where three succubi raise a human baby they found on a night out with the intent of fucking him when he’s old enough. That premise sounds a little bit yikes when you say it out loud, but I thought it was pretty funny.

Lady Red/レディー・レッド

Toriyama Akira

I had to save this one for last. This is a story by the late Akira Toriyama. Yes, THAT Akira Toriyama. The guy who made Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump made this. In Lady Red, an office worker decides she wants to abandon her boring life and becomes a superhero, but instead of stopping crimes, she gets sexually assaulted multiple times. Man, 1980's Japan was …something. Where was Goku to save her?

That’s the first Manga from Memory. Consider this an introduction to the concept. See you next time!
